I'm building a serving bar outside between two pergola posts, since it's basically the same as an indoor one other than material the size should be the same. Problem is everywhere I look I can't find any given specs as to what standard is for the height and width, I was gonna do 12" wide but am afraid this will be a bit small. Any suggestions?

Width between 20-24". Height depends on the seating. Bar stools or chairs?

bar stools for sure, I just want something most people could lean against and set down a plate if there wasn't enough seating etc

Not all stools have the same seat height, so get the stools you like and plan the serving bar height accordingly.
