Hoping this is the right place to post this. I'm having some difficulty determining the best lighting for what will essentially be a 24x12 homework/project/etc room. I'd like decent lighting for writing and other detail projects, without knowing exactly what the layout will be for pendants, and without task lamps.

Most people opt for throwing a ton of cans in the room, but my feeling is that it's better to light the ceiling, then perhaps some cans for filling in, and perhaps wall sconces. I've been trying to determine what type of light will best light the ceiling, without taking a ton of depth out as they are standard ceiling heights. Also, it's a basement, so I do have 10" on 16" cavities for what it's worth. I've seen a few products, but I covet your experiences.

Thanks!!
