I just had another bad door experience; I can't seem to win with installers or doors. This time I got a security door / screen door installed and it had to be attached to the outside of the door frame because it wouldn't fit inside. Instead of centering it, the guy made it flush with the right hand side of the door, so there is 1 1/2" gap on the left side of the frame. Since the special screws are one way, I can't see an easy way to remove them, not to mention he scratched the door pretty badly putting it up, so I'd hate to have to come down again and then back up. So I'm wondering about maybe putting a strip of wood on the left side between the security door and the frame to fill in the space. Would that work? Or should I insist that someone come out and move the door to center?

We know it was already installed wrong. Did they make the door custom to fit the hole?
If so, it should fit.
If it is 1 1/2" short, they made it the wrong size.
The installer, if was a carpenter could have corrected this during the install.
Also should have used touch up paint to correct the scratches.
I already know a few ways they can remove those screws and redo their work and correct the problem.
And if you paid honest money for a honest job, they should fix it.
You did not pay for a monkey job so you can just re do it when they are finished.
If they remove it, make a piece of trim 1/2" thick to match existing door jambs on each side.
This should leave 1/4" on each side and enough room to adjust the door while installing it.
If acceptable to you, will allow them to save the door they made and not have to totally rebuild it.
I almost suspect they did not do the touch up paint because installer knew it was wrong ... now they just waiting to see if you complain, expecting that they have to pull it and rehang.
Or they are truly total hacks.

Anyone that knew what they were dong would never have installed that door without shimming it out first.

It should have been mounted centered in the frame, with 3/4" on either side, but instead the installer mounted the right side to be flush with the door frame, leaving 1 1/2" on the left side.
