IF you wanted to secure a PT stud or board against a brick facade, would you drive a tapcon screw or anchor screw through the mortar joint or the brick itself?

BTW, I'm using this piece of PT to secure corrugated piping that hooks to the gutter downspout, not a fence or anything heavy.

When dealing with mortar there are no published holding values for tapcons because the quality of the mortar mixed is not known. The holding values of brick are alot more reliable. I always try the screw in a non descript area first. If I get a bite and the tapcon gets fully embedded I then continue on to my application.
