securing NM within 12" of box.

Does a hole count as securing NM within 12" of a metal box... or do I need to add a staple?
TIA

Edit: or another idea... how about zip tying to another wire?

Hole does not count as a strap. Holes close to the box are a major pet peeve of mine...I feel you pain.
