Hello,

I recently had to fill the bottom of the front door with plaster that my dog damaged by scratching out chunks of the wood. We tried wood putty but it was too deep so plaster did the job. But I am afraid one good slam and the plaster will break off. Is there anything I can seal it with to harden the outside of the plastered area??

Thank you!

You have dissimilar materials, and due to the contraction/ expansion factor, the weather will pop it off the door anyway.

Unless you put some anchor screws in the door then plastered over it.

You might try some Ceramic glazing, then a heat gun to set the glazing, but this is still going to look odd.

This is in a condo hallway that has no exposure to weather. Will that make a difference?

As long as the ambient temperature stays in the livable zone (not too hot, not too cold), the contraction / expansion should not have any effect.

But as others pointed out plaster was not a great choice, could you take this out and try the BONDO instead, and while your at it put in a few screws to hold the patch on,

Leave the screw heads exposed so the filler can be pushed behind the head and grab around the head, that way when it sets it cannot be knocked loose by a slam, or even a boot.

Then after the Bondo dries, sand it smooth and primer paint, then an enamel paint to finish it.
