I just installed a new bathroom exhaust fan in my bathroom. Now left with a gap around two of the sides of the housing.
What should I fill that gap with,to stop air leaks ?? Caulking ?? Spray foam??
And if I seal that gap will the fan work better??

By cutting the hole in the ceiling, you now have a hole in the vapour barrier.
When working new construction, I would go in to the attic and acousta-seal and tape a piece of poly over and around the fan housing to seal it tight. Then insulate according to plan.
Inside, if the trim covers the gap, no worries since the attic air is blocked by the Poly.

We have no idea how big this gap is or even exactly where it is judging by your question "will this make the fan work better".

It all depends on how wide the gap is. There really should not have been one. If securely mounted, you can use hot mud or vinyl spackle, which will flex a little. The Big stuff foam will stay and not break up or fall out. But really it would end up that once you place the ring on the unit, it will cause a vacuum, to find any gap between the housing and the drywall.

NEW fan in as a replacement? thus the gaps ? HOW big are the gaps?
1/2 inch . . .2 inches . . .on all sides? what will the trim ring cover?
Dry wall ceiling?

There is not more than 1/2 inch gap on only one side, the only trim ring is the plastic light assembly (if that is what you are talking about), and that covers everything from the bathroom side. Just wanted to seal from attic side. And the ceiling is sheetrock

Just Hot Mud the gap. From above, it will be a little harder.
