Screen repair tape

Quick question on fiberglass screen repair.

These screen repair tape they sell at home centers...

  • Fiberglass mesh tape duplicates the screen mesh for repairs so invisible only you will know it's there
  • Apply as a tape to repair holes, rips, tears and damage even around frames
  • Save a bundle on the cost of a new window or door screen
  • Fast and easy repairs - pays for itself the first time you use it
  • Silver - 2" X 15'
It looks very similar to drywall/cement board mesh tape.

How different are they?

I had a large tear and would like to do a temp repair until the screen guy can fit me into his schedule next week. I do have a roll of wall mesh tape, can I use it for that or is there something really special with the screen mesh tape?

If you don't know how to replace screen, or don't want to, there's a very strong adhesive packing tape, where if you can stick it to itself (one piece of either side of the screen) you should be fine. it is kind of unsightly, but it keeps the bugs out, and it's like $10 for a roll of this stuff.

Resurrected thread. That aside, advice on window screen replacement is not relevant because miamicuse is not replacing a window screen. See his photo in post #8.
It doesn't matter... it is the same process whether it is a window, a door or part of that cage. There is a frame, a spline and a screen.

Another amateur opinion from an old man who has failed his solo flight from atop a ladder 3 times. Get the kit of mesh designed for use on screening. The mesh drywall tape may look the same-- it even has some stickum on it but it isn't designed for outdoor use. The stuckum is only meant to hold the tape until the compound covers it. I'll bet it would come loose in the first rain or high wind. Looking at the picture you posted --- one trip up there would be enough for me.
