This is an old photo and I really like the white stones outlining the shrub area, along the front of the house.

Now the white stones have sunk to ground level.

Which should I do, dig them out and put sand under to lift them up, or buy new stones to put on top of existing stones and the second layer will give me the look in this photo maybe.

The stones didn't sink but the lawn raised over the years until water no longer drains away from the structure. This happens in every neighborhood.

Cut the lawn back with a sod cutter and sell the sod. Do this for 3-4 years consecutive and the white stones will be back close to their original elevation.
