Hi - i pulled this 12 foot long 4x4s from the lake that was an old dock (assuming somewhere around 30 years old). They are still in very good shape which suprised me. I want to use these as post for a gate to my vegetable garden. Should i be concerned about safety or should have all the "bad chemical stuff" be worn off by now? thanks

If you are concerned about the "bad chemical stuff" I would not use them. It does not just go away.
Personally I would not be concerned and I would use them if they were solid.

I always heard that the richer the soil is the better it is at pulling chemicals out of the wood. It wouldn't bother me to use that wood for a gate/fence as long as the vegetables weren't growing right next to it.
