Ruud model # PE52-1 C, 50 gallon electric

This morning my GF's water heater ran out of hot water during 2 showers. Never happened befor and should never happen with a 50 gallon unit. We checked the water later and it was not warming up. Flipped the breaker off and back on and now it seems like it is recovering (will check in about 30 minutes and report). I don't have my tools or meter to ohm out the element (yes, element singular, the label plate is blank for upper and the total wattage is the same as listed for the lower - 5500W).

If I need an element are these things universal... and hopefully available at Lowes?

Well, it seems to be recovering. I'll check it again this evening after hiking. Also, I pulled the top element well cover and see it is the screw-in type (upper well just had a blank cap) so I know what type to get if I need it.
