Well one thing has led to another, as it usually does... I had originally set out to make my basement more soundproof by insulating the ceiling cavity and area above the drop ceiling tiles... Well I noticed my floors are also pretty squeaky which has led me to look at the structural supports. Well the floor joists 16" on center run up attached to a glulam beam. The joist hanger is Stimpson StrongTie. I wasn't able to find the exact same model of hanger on the Stimpson website, I assume its an old model?

I have attached a picture which can describe things much better than I can! As you can see, part of the hanger attaches to the joist with bent metal of the hanger, and the other part of the hanger is nailed into the glulam. The three nails going into the glulam appear to be rusty! Well, this seemed alarming to me. I was wondering if I could use a stimpson screw into the "empty" nail holes in the hangar?? Not really looking forward to shoring up the joists to replace the hangars... ugh. What do you think?

Also, any other suggestions for securing a loud floor FROM BELOW, is helpful.

Thanks!

Not sure a screw would hold it much better. You would be better putting some joist blocking to tie the floors together, but I am not a framer. There are guys that do this all day long that know this better than me.

I am just not sure a couple of screws would hold that together that much better.

You could also run a 2x4 under the joist to block the bottom.

A little surface rust on the heads not going to do any harm and not causing the squecks.
Looks like someone did not use the required real hanger nails that are hot dipped, galv.
Add any missing nails with the right one's.
More likely it's something like undersized sub flooring, no glue on top of the joist, not using T & G, not enough nails used.

6. Nails and Strong-Drive SD Connector screws may not be combined in a connection.--- from; Simpson

No glue on the T&G joint, air nails or partial, no gap at the header/joist joint, as yours appears...

Forgot; hanger too tight on the sides causing noise, no glue under the joist in the hanger, too long a lap at the other end, causing the noise when joist flexes. Redundant to add any lumber under the hanger- may cause more noise... whole reason for the hanger.
