I am running underground electrical to a detached garage and want to run cable/phone, gas, and water along with it. I already have the electrical ran in 2 inch conduit done and want to add the water, gas, and cable/phone. The trench now is 2 feet deep and 2 feet wide. What are the space requirements between all four? Do they go side by side or on top of one another? Also what kind of material should I use for the water and natural gas? I am in southern california so freezing is not an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
The water and gas can typically occupy the same trench as the electric, with some separation rules. This is typically a building/plumbing code issue. There is no NEC rule for separation.
assuming this work is permitted (as in done with a permit) ask the inspector there are various ways to run the gas sleeved copper comes to mind and that would work for the water also but the copper will need to be painted yellow to designate it for gas
I know plastic gas lines are yellow or have a yellow stripe. But copper painted yellow. I don't think so. Maybe a local ordinance? Never heard of this rule.
i've seen black pipe marked yellow in industrial settings...i don't know about copper!....i would think it would be too thin
