I am installing a sprinkler system and I want to put the controller in the water heater closet inside the house.

Can I then run the low voltage control wires through the floor into the subfloor, where I can run them to the boxes that are next to the house? Would I need conduit for going down the wall, or can I just use plastic staples?

Finally, I want to come through the rim joist under the deck and into the ground. Would I need conduit into the ground? The wire is rated for burial, so wouldn't need it in the ground.

Thanks.

Any wires need to be 18" under ground, any exposed wires need to be protected with gray PVC.
Okay, thanks. The boxes are only a few inches from the deck, so putting the wires in conduit under the deck is easy enough with conduit in the dirt the last few inches. What about inside the house running down the wall in the closet and through the floor? I guess conduit is easy enough for that as well, but would the 24V wires in conduit affixed to the wall in a finished closet be up to code?
