I want to run a new outlet for my flat screen tv and the only outlet is on a lower wall. Our basement is block half way up then studs finish the upper wall. I have a 6" finished cap that sits on top of the block. How do I get the electric ran from the lower portion to the upper where I need it

Snaking a new cable is difficult to explain on an internet forum, even more so when you're dealing with a 1/2 foundation wall with another wall setback from it. Although construction methods vary, often there is no way to snake from your lower wall to the upper because the upper is built directly on top of the protruding foundation. Like Oso says, it may be easier to get a cable down from above then to get one up from below.

Another method is plastic or metal channel that can be mounted to the wall to direct the power (and another for cable connections) from where they are to where you need them to be. Those are available at most home centers.

There is an outlet upstairs in the dining room above where I want to put the tv. I will have to see how it matches up to where I want to mount the tv. Thanks for the info Island appreciate it.

Ok, so after a closer look at my wall, I will not have to run wire through the block. There is enough room between the drywall and the block that I can run the wire I will only have to notch the plate on top of the block to be able to get it up the stud wall. Now the question is do I still need to run conduit?
