Hi guys,

I have to run a 3" toilet PVC drain pipe through a 2x8 floor joist. I know that the biggest hole you can drill through a 2x8 is 2 3/8" but I have no other option but to go through this joist. Is there any way I can scab the joist?

Thanks,

Pat

The proper way to do it is to add double headers on each side of the pipe to to the 2 adjacent joists. Technically they should probably be doubled bit I seen a lot of them that aren't. Add the framing before you drill the hole and use joist hangers.
