My husband and I recently bought a house with a large dining room. It has lovely travertine flooring throughout but I feel as though it is too cold and uninviting. I told him that the best solution to warm up the space and make the room less echo-ey would be to purchase a rug and place it under the dining table. He disagreed and said that plenty of homes do not have rugs under their dining tables and they look just as nice. My concern is that A) the dining room will not look "finished" without a rug and B) the noise our chairs will make when being pulled out. Does any one have any thoughts on this or is in a similar situation?
