Old T-stat: Bryant TSATBBNHP01B

Problem: Replacement thermostat blows warm air for AC. Heat is working just fine with the heat pump.

First time visitor. Here is the wiring:
Red Wire to R
White wire to O/B (based on config on old Bryant t-stat which was W/W1)
Blue wire to C
Green wire to G
Yellow wire to Y
Orange wire to Aux (O/W2 on Bryant Tstat)

Setting on program for function 170 to 9 (2 heat 1 cool).

I also re-mounted the old thermostat and the cool works fine, so the problem is not with the heat pump/AC unit...the problem is either in my wiring or the programming. Also, there is a brown and a black wire which were not attached to any place in the old thermostat. Any suggestions will help. Thanks

W1/O of new stat, is same as W2/O of old stat.

You have it wired wrong.

OK...I checked it out and I was mistaken...the white wire is on O/B on the new thermostat. I even tried swapping the orange and white wires...same result...warm air.

The orange wire goes on to the O/B terminal(pressuming its also attached to the O terminal at the HP). Which is a common wiring config for heat pumps.

You also must tell the stat its controlling a HP, and that O is energized in cooling mode.

Sometimes you have to read the install instructions several times.

And some of those cheap thermostats come wth really crappy install instructions.

On the old thermostat, the orange wire went to the Aux heat...so you are saying on the new one,
1. I need to connect the orange to the O/B?
2. Then, will the white wire go to the aux?

I tried 1 and 2 with the same result. This whole "Easy to install" thing is frustrating the crap out of me. BTW...thanks for your quick replies.

Since it had a O designation also, that means it was a RV control terminal, or an aux heat terminal, depending on configuraion se up.

W1/O on teh new stat is what controls the RV*reversing valve)
W2 of the new stat is aux heat.

The O is always a RV control terminal, on residential equipment.

The orange wire belongs on the W1/O terminal of the new thermostat.

Yes...I muddled the initial post...and did not change it until after you responded. There is NO W1/O terminal (my mistake, again)...it is O/B (for Heatpumps) and W (for conventional).

OK...one last try tonight.

1. I connected Orange to O/B
2. White to the Aux...and also (per page 12 in the installation guide,
3. connected a small jump wire to the E terminal...If E and Aux terminals do not each have a wire connected, use a small piece of wire to connect them to each other.

Waiting for the AC to cycle on...and...nice WARM AIR coming out.

Thanks for trying to talk me through this. I will be calling the local Carrier dealer tomorrow.

Did you go into the set up menu, and tell it to energixe the O terminal in cooling mode.

PS: 170 must be set to 7.

Other wise, it won't know that your hooking it to a heat pump.

And 190 must be set to 0(zero).

I will try that setting today when I get home...and duh...9 is CONVENTIONAL. Like you said...read the directions CAREFULLY.:jester:

(Edit...it seems to be working, with the jumper wire going from the Aux to the E terminal). Thanks so much for your help...and most of all...for your PATIENCE)
