After reading about Roxul insulation for a long time, I finally special ordered some for a water tank and an addition, and I am very impressed with it. It cost me twice what fg would, but that happens w/ special orders. Roxul costs a bit more in stores that carry it to start with, I believe, but even at twice the price, I think you get twice the product. I am sure we will be able to fit the Roxul far better than fg when we insulate the stick addition. Roxul is very dense, very uniform, cuts well w/ a hand wood saw, and just "has some torque to it". I immediately rubbed some on my wrist to see if it was as itchless as claimed, and experienced no problem; I would never think of that w/ fg. It IS a bit dusty, so when we install it overhead we'll wear dust masks. We used it to wrap a1500 gallon outside water tank, which I would not even consider doing w/ fg. Yes, spray foam is the norm with that, but this cat can not afford spray foam, so we spent many hours wrapping Roxul. As you can see in the photo, we stood up lath and tied/goo'd it w/ 1/8" line to hold the Rox in place; it looks a bit "farmer john", but, wth, it works. After two wraps of Tyvek, I have no fear that this tank will freeze up, even at -40 F (yes, there is 100' of 2 watt/ft heat tape wrapped around the lower edge of the tank, under the Rox; that is normal for here). In the spring, we'll put a quick shed over the whole deal. At any rate, I just wanted to give my 2 cents on Roxul. Now that I can order it, fg is toast where I can not use cellulose. Just an opinion.
