I'm working on building a storm door for my front entrance, which has a round top door in it. One thing I did not account for: because the door is recessed, when you open the storm door, the brickwork on the hinge side ends up hitting the top of the door. With the hinges I bought (which fit the mortises that were already in the casing from a previous screen or storm door, which I don't have), the door opens less than 90 degrees, probably about 80 I'd say. I'm thinking that if I went with a wider hinge it would push the door further out when opened, giving some more clearance on that top edge. I'm not really sure how to figure out how wide of a hinge I need though.

How wide is the storm door ?

What is the width of the stone opening ?

What is the distance from the current hinge point to the front face of the brick?

Judging by the proportions, I would say 80 degrees if you are lucky. But just having the hinge pivot sticking out 2" looks poor, in my humble opinion.

I see three option:
1) door only opens about 80 degrees
2) frame out the jamb another 3 or so inches
3) cut a flat on the top of the storm door and put a fixed filler in the top of the door frame. Maybe paint a curved accent line on the filler piece that completes the curvature of the door, or just set it back half an inch.

You're going to have to move the pivot point of the hinge (the knuckle) a pretty good distance to get the storm door to clear the brick. I don't know of a solution for you, because the wider the hinge, the further the leading edge of the door moves away from the knuckle as it swings.

Swing-clear or Wide-throw hinges like Nealtw shows, allow the door slab to completely clear the opening. They're often seen in hospital rooms.
