Hello,

I am getting ready to begin the electrical wire rough in process on my new second floor addition. Is there a preferred method to running the wires such as drilling holes through the studs and running the wire horizontally that way from box to box or run the wires from a box, then run the wires up through the plates, then horizontally throgh the ceiling joist and then back down the wall to the next box?

Thanks,

Pat

A contractor would figure the least amount of materials and the least labor. You can do it any code compliant way that you want.

You run the wire both ways to get what you need wired, wired.
Ron,

Thanks for the info. I understand what you're saying but I could run the wires only if I wanted to by going from the boxes, vertically through the plates, horizontally through the joist and back down vertically to the box. Is one method better than the other or is it unnecessary to only do it the one way I mentioned?

Thanks,

Pat
