Rough in for tub

I know you can't run Pex to the tub spout. Is there anyway to connect the tub spout to the diverter other than using copper? If not I guess I shall practice my soldering skills(by using a female adapter and soldering the copper to it??).

I've looked through dozens of websites and several books but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.
