I started the process of residing my house and i came across about 10 feet of rotten sill plate on top of my block foundation but, only about the outside 3"s of the 2X10 is rotten. So i was thinking about chiseling out all the rot and sliding in a treated 2X4 to make it a full 2X10 just in two pieces. Was wondering if this would work any ideas would be great don't really wanna have to go threw the process of jacking up my house to fix this.

A picture will help us a lot on this. Is the bottom bearing portion of the 2x10 joist also damaged?

Most of is where the floor joists sit is ok maybe an 1" would need to be removed. I'll try and get a picture tomorrow if the rain holds off.

The sill plate can be replaced in sections---you don't need to do all 10 feet as one piece.
