I have discovered that about 3 inches of the bottom plate that run next to my patio door is rotted. The water entry issue has been fixed already. The patio door is in a room on a concrete slab, the door frame has 2 jack studs and a king stud. The studs do not have any rot, but the bottom plate under the jack and king studs has rotted. The door frame has not sagged at all, but I want to replace this piece of bottom plate so it does not become an issue.

I am already planning on replacing the door in the spring, but the weather will not be conducive to removing the door for about 2 more months.

Could I support the door frame and just cut out a section of the bottom plate and put a new piece in under the studs with the door in place? Since this on concrete I'm not having to deal with a rotted sub floor or floor joists.

If you're going to be replacing the door, I wouldn't mess with it. Very likely that the bottom plate is ramset/concrete nailed into the floor and it will not just slide out. You'll wind up opening up Pandora's box halfway and not being able to close it without some doing.

Thank you for the response. I think you are right that it will be an issue with the door in place.

Do you think it will be ok for a couple months until I can replace the door and repair this? It's a one story house and this room is on concrete, the rest of the bottom plate and studs are solid with no rot. The door frame is still level with no signs of sagging. The wall also is fine with no signs of issues inside or outside.

I also have the wall opened up in this area with a fan blowing on it to dry it out, I will then also treat the area to ensure no mold starts.

Posting a picture of the damage would be great.
At least 99% of the time it's because the threshold is even with the slab, big building 101 mistake.
