I own a robotic total station so I can get right down to a gnat's ass if needed, but I really need something that is faster to setup and use for basic stuff. I am working by myself more and more. I don't know the norms of accuracy but for right now, I would be good getting within 1/16" at 200ft. Maybe that is asking too much? I need a motorized laser and target. Ability to shoot horz and vert would be a plus most mostly horz right now.

I know the top names like Topcon, Trimble, etc, but I can't fork that kind of cash for a rarely used tool. Back in the day, we sourced a Topcon Vertical unit for large municipal bridge work and recall the cost being in the thousands, but that was 15yrs ago. However, we had issued with that unit with vibrations from surrounding dozer work causing the unit to reset and lose zero.

I am open to used, but I need something probably more than DIY grade. I understand the value and time savings of quality tools.

1/16" at 200' won't be available in anything you get, except for high end professional stuff with a high dollar attachment. CST has always been a go to for surveying equipment. You can get one they claim will shoot 2000' and an accuracy of 3/32". The complete kit will run about $800. Hilti goes up into the thousands from there for the head only.

Looking for low price and high performance is a definite problem. If you can identify the machine you want try locating other similar people who share that limited use detail and find a way to share one really good machine. A sort of small group rental store concept.
