I am replacing a box with a slightly deeper one. I'm not able to get it flush to the drywall, because it's hitting an electrical wire. There is a staple higher up in the wall that I could probably remove. I had no luck with pliers, but I saw a tool called the Staple Shark that may work. I posted a picture below. Do I have any options? Could I re-staple it closer to the back of the stud? I need 3 1/2" for the box to fit properly.

You should just make it. With a 3-1/2" stud and 1/2" drywall you should have 1/2" behind the box.

Either way, pulling the staple and getting some slack on the wire is fine to move it to the side of the box.

I will have to remove the staple and move the wire as far back as possible. I should have just enough room if I do that. Is it okay having a box pushed right against a cable?

Do you have tips for removing the staple without damaging the wire? It's up the wall slightly, and I can't get the pliers in the right spot. I found this tool, and it looks like it will work. I'm not sure if I can get it locally, so I may have to order online. http://www.rack-a-tiers.com/product/37/Staple-Shark
