I'm running Romex from my attic down thru wall cabinets to the inside of base cabinets to a duplex box mounted on the outside of the cabinet. The Romex will be on drywall for about 18" but will be behind pegboard and stapled to the furring strip. Is the Romex considered protected since it is covered by the pegboard.. This in the garage behind the pegboard above my cabinet workbench...

I would say yes. But if the peg board hooks can come in contact with the cable I say no.
