Figured this would be the best place to ask. Looking at picking up a Ridgid Tri-stand. I borrowed a 40a from a friend and worked very well.

I see the more popular (and a bit more expensive) model is the chain clamp 450.

I would *think* the 40a with the clamp holds the pipe better than the chain 450. Does the 450 chain slip at all when really leaning into it?

I did a search but didnt find any opinions on this.

Both work well and will not allow the pipe to spin---I prefer the chain---as it is a bit faster to use when switching pipe sizes a lot---

Get whichever one you can afford.

I was working with a lot of 4" Victalic and schedule 40---

Hey Mike,

Thats a good point that i didnt think of. I do a fair share of PVC cutting. I usually use a miter saw for it but the max on the 40a is 2 1/2 pipe. The chain would allow me to tackle bigger size PVC. Thanks for the feedback
