I have a up stairs room that was added onto a ranch house and I am replacing the ceiling.

What I noticed is it looks like the installed a ridge vent from the outside as the shingles are elevated and from the inside they have the plywood cut away from the ridge board 1-2 inches. BUT - there is roofing paper covering the openings. there is no gape between the paper and the plywood.

I am installing vent baffles above the ceiling where the insulation goes.. should I be concerned about the paper? There are two gable vents on either side of the roof.

Thanks

Sure glad they went to all that trouble putting in a ridge vent.....but lucky they caught it in time and covered up.

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING....?????????????????????????????????????????

(You should have a very light bug screen up there too....don't know if you can cut the felt w/o hurting the bug screen. You may be ok with just the gable vents if not.)

As Ron said, it may be ok. You can test it with a source of fine powder and a bright light. Smoke works but I hesitate to suggest it. An incense stick is also an option.

With the access panel open there should be a strong air flow going out. If not, proceed to investigate as suggested above and re-test to confirm.
