We moved recently and must put up fencing for our horses again. A friend offered us some used treated wood fence posts. I don't want to replace them in a couple of years due to rot... Does it work to re-treat them, and if so, what's best to use?

2nd question: We use 2 strands of high tensile fence wire (electrified), but we do not pull it very tight - just enough to keep it out of trouble. :) None of the wire runs is longer than 1000 ft before coming to a gate or end post. And most are not longer than 500. Any thoughts on what we need to do for corners, gates, and ends? I suspect we would not need braced posts at gates and ends for sure - just a single post?

Thanks for you help!!

You can buy the same copper treatment at any lumber yard as is in treated lumber but ground contact treatment that is done to posts is not likely available.
They always rot right at ground level so a 6" wrap centered at ground level helps.

6" peel and stick and a spray primer hat they use for windows.

I would guess that you will have an insulator on every post and they will carry the weight of the wire, so there won't be a lot of tension on the end post.

But bracing the end post is always a good idea.

Ayuh,...... I've pulled Pt 4x4 posts out, that had been in heavy clay in northern ny, for 35 years,.....

They were as solid as the day they were planted,.....

With all of the variables, I suggest ya go look at the posts, 'n wack 'em with a hammer,.....
If they ring solid, use 'em,....

To get more time from 'em, run 'em upside-down,......

If ya cheat the corners, 'n ends, you'll be fixin' 'em later,.....
Yer choice is when,.....
