wife and i just bought our first, old house. for the radiators in the home are covered in terribly ugly covers. i'd like to remove the covers but unfortunately almost all of them have old, ugly and deteriorating paint.

do i have any reasonable options here? our painting contract told us he could paint them but not sure that's the best approach. i've also heard of sandblasting to strip the paint but that sounds labor intensive, expensive and, of course, we'd be without heat.

thanks in advance!

Post pics of them, so we may get an idea of what you have to work with.

Sand blasting would be the best way if your looking for a really nice finish.

However, they can be wire brushed and then repainted. Looks okay, but you can see they were not stripped.

Removing them during the off season and sandblasting would make them look great but it will not be easy. The one in your picture would take 3 men and a boy to move. I would leave them covered.
