Several years ago I put in a walk using quickcrete country walk maker. I'm now tearing the walk out to do something else with that part of my yard. I would like to repurpose the concrete stones into a patio. My concern is they vary greatly in thickness. I want an above ground installation and pea gravel between "stones". I'm guessing it will be similar to dry laying of flag stones. I was going to use landscape timber for a boarder and not excavate so far down. Will the timbers hold for an edge? Minimum of gravel and sand? I would love to not have to use crushed gravel if at all possible. My ground is clay/sandy. I live in a very arid area. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

With the difference in thickness I suppose we could call it cobble stone.

The timbers usually hold well when #2 or #3 rebar is driven down a couple of feet through a bored hole in the timber.

I'd suggest locating all utility lines before excavating and driving rebar to secure the borders.
