Hi all,

I'd really like to replace my patio sliding glass door... I went to a big box store, and they had two they could special order based on my size (96x80).

My jam width is about 4.75 on my current slider. The Jeldwen that I (think) I want has a width of 6.5 inches. I assume if I wanted to install this door, I'd have to remove flooring on the inside of the house to accommodate the new size. It is tile with a concrete subfloor... so that seems like a messy situation.

I googled around, figuring I can't be the only one that wants to replace an old crappy door with a newer model that has a larger frame depth... but I haven't found anything.

Do people typically just buy doors to fit their footprint of the one they are replacing, or is it common to increase the jam size to accommodate the newer doors?
