Hi,
One of my boys decided to play Tarzan on their fan speed control pull chain and ripped it clean out. I took it apart and got the same 4-wire replacement switch at lowes. Here's my problem; the replacement switch is too big to fit in the fan.
I went back to Lowes and they have a 3 wire switch that is much smaller and will fit in the housing. My question is can I use the 3 wire switch and just hook up the high and medium setting wires to the switch and leave the low speed wire disconnected? I'm assuming these switches are just single pole, multie throw setups. Is this correct or are they more intricate than that?

Any insight appreciated!

FYI - normally I'd ohm out the original switch to figure this out but it was split in half when the boys broke it.
