I had granite installed and am replacing all the electrical myself. I purchased extenders but they don't seem to be working because the granite was cut too tight. Since all the wires are covered up inside the back of the receptacles do I need to use the extenders? I bought longer screws and it works fine but I was just concerned with the idea that there is nothing surrounding the outlet other than granite and the old box if I don't use the extenders. There is only a slight bit of particle board that shows through on the side. Any thoughts would be appreciated:whistling2:

It is a plastic box the same dimensions of the original electrical box in the wall and will normally slide into the area where the granite is you then screw the outlet into that. I believe I got mine at Lowes it would have been great had the granite been cut to size.

I use Arlington BE-1's and BE-2's for this.

In a typical installation, since granite is not combustible, no extensions necessary......but why would there be particle board behind the splash???

In walls and ceilings constructed of wood or other combustible surface material, boxes, plaster rings, extension rings, or listed extenders shall be flush with the finished surface or project therefrom.

It is minimal just ever so noticeable between the original box and granite. Will look into the Be-1's or 2's mentioned.:turned:
