This is not about pricing but rather opinions on the new unit. I need to replace my system and I am limited to what I can get because of lack of space in the attic where the air handler is. They quoted me for a trane xr14. I see mixed reviews about this unit but I'd like some professionals opinions.

What do you mean by builder grade? It's has a 10 year parts and coil warranty bUT that doesn't mean much if I have to pay labor costs all the time. I have a second company coming out next weekend for a second estimate and they don't endorse only trane.

I like that article. Might have to copy and paste that a few more times...

Cheers!
Assembled in the US with china parts - or is it Made in China and assembled in the US??? Some MFG PRIDE- yes they are proud of the high cost of there replacement parts- $700. e-vap coil- when you can buy a complete AH (other brand) for less-- Pride the $700. e-vap coil (part) made it past the 1 year warranty- lasted almost 2 years- Pride is the built in job security- they make the parts to malfunction shortly after the limited parts warranty is up.

Forget about everything you read and see online in reviews. Majority of them are paid to troll posts. Those very few that you see giving good marks, are going to be those who have it.

A HVAC system is only as good as the person or company that installs it. Same goes with proper maintenance and if in an area that deals with a lot of power surges or lightning strikes, you have to consider that into protection of the circuit board on the unit.

It just means that the price is low enough that a company that builds Trac homes or is constantly building for clients, that is the unit that they would order by the truckload, unless a customer spec's for a different unit.

That is all that builder grade means. Nothing wrong with it, if it saves you money. You may also want to look into Lennox's Armstrong air line. I have a outdoor unit from the Armstrong line, and it is quiet when running. Does a great job when it is hot out with high humidity. Of course my unit is always shaded on the West side that it sits at, so that helps out a lot.

Hard to find a unit that doesn't have a 10 year pats warranty these days.
