Should I use the new pvc stuff or go with the old standard? Also I need to replace the small piece(triangle shaped) where the trim meets at the bottom. Anybody know what kind of wood is best for that piece?

I am doing the lower level in front so I can get a feel of what needs to be done. I will hire out the two upper levels. I'm thinking PVC is the way to go

If you go with wood, be sure to back prime it. I personally like the LP smart trim. That stuff holds up very well compared to wood.

Just took down the 15 year old 1x12 cedar last fall and replaced it with 1x16 wood grained Azek. That stuff is real nice to work with, but it ain't cheap! I think mine was close to 5 bucks a board foot. No regrets tho, it's white, gonna stay white and I won't ever have to paint! Won't be feeding the carpenter bees and woodpeckers either.

long lenghts of pvc trim moves too much, opening seams and overly stressing fasteners,i much prefer wood or wood based composites like Miratec
