Need help with wiring , please! I am replacing the fan motor (AO Smith F48E06A48, HP1/4, rpm1100, volts 208/230, Amps 1.4, Hz 60) from an old York heat pump (york model # HP030X1021A) with a new motor (FASCOD7909).

The old motor has 4 wires: green = ground; brown that goes to the 5MFD cap; black that goes to a control board; red that goes to the contactor and then on to the cap.

The new motor has 5 wires: green; brown; brown/white; black; and white.

How do I wire the new motor? Any help is much appreciated.

figured it out

Talked to an HVAC guy at work and he gave me instructions.
1. removed old fan with associated wires: e.g. removed brown from capacitor; removed green from ground; removed black from control board; removed red from contactor L2 (L2 is line 2. The contactor has two sides, one is L2 and the other side is L1). Removed the red jump wire that went from L2 contactor to the old capacitor. Removed the old 5 MFD capacitor.

2. Connected new motor. Brown to new 5 MFD capacitor. Brown/white to new 5 MFD capacitor. Black to control board (same place as old black). Red to contactor (L2). Be careful not connect the red to the L1 side; you will short the system. Green to ground.

A few other things. This FASCO motor has wires that are a little short, especially the ground. Can just barely make the connections. Also, the screws on top are too long. I have the cut them down to mount the fan. Lastly, I bought the motor at a local shop for $101.00. Later, found it on the net for 68.00. No big deal, I like to support the local folks AND the shop dealer was helpful and a nice guy.

Motor works great now.

I really like to see a HO get this accomplished with little help. It's not always an easy job to cross reference small fractional HVAC motors.

Did you get a price from the OEM (York)? Would you have been able to connect this fan motor without help from your friend?
Did the Fasco motor have a wiring diagram on it? Is it wired like the drawing?

You see I always take the old motor to my local supplier and let them cross it to something as close as possible. Sometimes I get the identical motor.
Or if I have time I will get a quote from the OEM and have it over nighted. That way I know it is simple to replace.

Good job.
