Replacing A ceiling Fan with a Light Fixture

650 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Jim Port
Hi all. I have a question about replacing a ceiling fan with a standard light fixture. In the ceiling I have 4 wires (red, white, black and ground). At the switch I have red, black and ground (picture). So I connected the black to black and white to white in the ceiling and capped off the red. Now with the circuit breaker back on, the light stays on constantly regardless of switch position. I don't know if I need to cap off the white wire or pigtail the red wire with another. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Sounds like the red is the switched hot. Move the fixture black to the ceiling red.
