The breaker itself is about $8 at HD. It can be done very easily if you have any common sense. You should kill the main breaker before touching anything. If you don't know what you're doing then you could easily kill yourself.

If you're asking how much an electrician should charge, I would guess they'll charge you an hour. No idea what electricians in your area charge for an hour of work though. Guessing $60-$120.

The OP did not state if the breaker was one that is currently available off the shelf or if it is a hard to find obsolete one so pricing cannot be given for the part.

Any contractor charging rates like that will not be in business long.

Electricians charge less than $60 an hour? Just driving to you costs gas, wear and tear, time, insurance, and other overhead. I doubt I could even get an electrician to take that job in my area. It's not worth their time. Mechanics in my area charge $90-$150.

My go to plumbtrician is a steal at $90.00 an hour. He shows up on time, knows what he's doing so doesn't waste time, is clean, neat and personable and is supportive of my DIY habit. He doesn't mind the occasional question and doesn't charge extra for fixing any mistakes.

With stuff that will kill you or destroy your house if done improperly, you can't cheap out.

I'm not sure if Jim Port meant that range was too high; or too low. As said here a million times, too many factors to quote a price.

When I sold my last house, the buyer's HI noted that the P-trap under the upstairs bathroom sink was loose where it connected to the waste line. It was missing a plastic compression washer. I lived in the house for 7 years, had no idea, it never leaked, otherwise I would've fixed it. BUT the contract said any issues that we agreed to fix as a result of the HI had to be fixed by a licensed professional.

The plumber charged me $160 for what amounted to a 10 minute visit (non-emergency). Going rate in this area.....

I meant that rate was too low, and the contractor would not make enough to survive for long.

Guys around here charge around 40-60 an hour. I usually charge by the job. They ask me if I can do it and I give them a rate that will allow me to make enough money. Usually more than others but they don't notice because I just say what I will do it for and it's less scary to them than 60 an hour not knowing how long it will take.
