Hi all,

I have 3 basement windows I want to replace and they are the kind with the steel frame/buck in the concrete. I was not going to replace them but I saw this video here that made it look easy:

Showing where you can just pull the old insert out and snap a new one in. Aluminum, Vinyl, etc. If I can replace mine the same way, I am in!

The problem is, in their video, the insert has tabs at the top and the insert is removed by bringing it towards you (inside the house).

My windows do not have tabs at the top. Instead they have 2 clamps (one on each side) with a screw that holds the insert in place. Also, the insert is removed by pushing it out (towards outside).

My question is, can I still get a similar replacement insert that will work with my style where I can just take the old one out and put a new one in without having to remove the frame?

I tried to find a manufacturer name on my windows or frames but can't seem to locate one.

Any help is appreciated, here are a couple pics of my window type top show what I mean.

Yours look like they are just simply secured into the foundation with 2 screws. Even if you did manage to find the manufacture they may not be in business anymore.

I'm sure you could find a replacement insert or something that would work.

Take that picture or better yet just take the entire window to a customize glass shop or local lumber yard and see if they can have one made for you. It may take a couple weeks, but mine came out fine.

I had done this with several of my windows. 5 were basement windows. I just anchored them right in the foundation concrete.

I had the same problem, the original manufacture was no longer in business. However, I was able to have a local lumber yard measure it up and have an insert made that worked. It was a little different look, as they were casement windows with screens that could be open from the top which is what I wanted. Something that you would have to discuss with them. They were specially made so there was no returns or refunds. Make sure it's what you want or just keep what you got they still look in good shape. Just a suggestion.

Hope you get it figured out n00.

Thanks for the advice jmon! Originally, I was wanting to simply replace the screens but later found out its all one piece, so when I saw how easily the window popped out, I stumbled across the video I linked earlier. I like the idea of updating the look from the silver aluminum to a white vinyl to match my other windows in the house so if its possible to find one I can pop back in, thats the route I would like to go.

I will look for something custom like you suggested if I can't find one already out there.

Thanks again ~
