Replacement for a over cooking range exhaust fan motor

I have an old through the wall over the cooking range exhaust fan. It's motor wires insulation completely dissolved by many years of the cooking grease residue. I have an option to replace the wires or the whole motor. I don't have experience in taking apart totally enclosed motors and couldn't find a way to open it and get access to the motor insides. I tried to find suitable replacement but couldn't find similar make/model. I ordered one on Amazon and it did not fit. The old one is a following:

Universal Electric Co. Owosco, MICHIGAN
Totally Enclosed Air Over motor
SER 12Jf 75404R Mod. JA2C009G# E311P-1
115V, 60Hz, 0.66A, 1550RPM, CW, 2 prong plug
Size 3.3”x2” Single shaft 1.5”x1/4”
Two ¾” length mounting studs on the rear side

I will appreciate if someone with relevant experience sends me make/model of the appropriate motor. I found a cross reference tool :

It gave me AO Smith model 20 but it does not look like my old JA2C009. I attached the picture.

What brand and model hood fan. Have you tried to contact the manufacture of the hood fan?

It is not a hood fan but an old through the wall exhaust fan. There was a label inside but it is not readable - too old. The home is 60 years and I am not sure when the motor was installed.

BTW we are planning new kithchen and will replace all this garbage but it will be in a while. So I am reluctant to replace the whole device. $30-50 for the motor is reasonable.

Maybe check some appliance stores or your local electrical supply.

Go to an appliance store that has a parts counter. Not a big box or store front that sells appliance and every other thing imaginable. Go to a specialty appliance store that has a repair shop and parts counter.

If you can't get an exact replacement - you could also check some HVAC supply stores for a compatible one. A couple of years ago, I went in for a new motor for my air handler and noticed they had a pretty wide range of electric motors of all sizes... maybe they can even cross reference a compatible one.

Otherwise finding a suitable one: match rotation direction (does that say CW?), shaft diameter & length, and RPM, etc... and mounting holes the same distance apart - you can transfer the mounting bolts. Bring it in hopefully they have a homeowner friendly staff... perhaps you might have better luck finding a motor meeting your specs but not the exact same model....

aside from amazon, could try http://www.surpluscenter.com/electric.asp they always have a neat oddball selection of electric and mechanical items.
