I'm remodeling a basement shower, and want to replace the drain. Unfortunately, its set into the concrete foundation slab. I'm not sure what my options are - I could leave it there, but I'd rather not.

Depends. What system are you going with to waterproof everything? Fiberglass shower base or custom/tile finish?

I did not think fiberglass base was an option because of the irregular position of the drain in the basin, so either tile or using the existing concrete floor (either polishing the concrete or epoxy paint) were the options I thought were in play.

Demo enough concrete to move the trap and drain. Rent an electric jack hammer.

I just did mine this weekend with my compressor, air hammer, and chisel bit. It took a little longer than renting a jack hammer but since I already had the other stuff it was a lot cheaper. Make sure you ventilate the area well, wear protective goggles and ear plugs.
