We've got several 6' aluminum step ladders and they all have developed the same problem -- one of the braces no longer locks and is able to collapse downwards thus making the ladder dangerous.
joes.. right.. 3 years ago i was installing the house numbers on the front of a house while up on a homeowners ladder... the thing collapsed on me .. i was 5 ft up and i bruised my ribs in hte fall...
With the price now not that far apart especially if on sale fiberglass is the only way to go not only won't collapse but won't conduct either if you happen to touch something sparky.
should have added. the ladders i use are a 5' fibreglass for light duty stuff. a 2' aluminum for trim and drywall . and a 17' jaws ladder which is far more heavy duty than a fibreglass and can be either a step ladder or an exension ladder
