Repair interior Basement Wall

Hello All,

Quick question for all you professionals out there.. :)

I'm in the middle of a project in my basement, which involves me re-pointing and re-parging part of the cinder block walls. In some areas the parge is crumbling, while other areas are not too bad... My question is, Do i NEED to remove all the old parge on there beforehand? Or is that just a recommendation? :)

Thanks,

How well is it attached. You definitely want to break the loose stuff off and beyond the footprint of where it is poorly bonded.

we'd remove it all as it will fall off on its own at some time,,, realize that's time & $ but
you don't need this to become an annual maintenance item either
