Hi everyone,
Thanks for providing this great resource.

I live in a rental property, and my housemate's room has no door. The landlord is already dealing with a ton of leaks, etc, and I don't want to burden him further, but a cotton curtain really isn't cutting it. We are looking for ideas for a secure, locking room divider that would be quite inexpensive and not cause lasting alteration to the property.

The space used to have double French doors, quite tall. around 7.5/8 feet. It's approx. 4 feet wide. Hinges are still up from the old doors.

Habitat for Humanity reuse stores usually have a ton of doors to choose from. You could get a replacement there maybe

Resale store mesuare the opening and look for two doors that will fill the opening.

a sheet of plywood. cut it to almost exact fit. screw it to the existing hinges. put jam moldings on. then a latch to hold it closed.

There are lot of cheap room dividers available that could be the solution for your privacy. Since the hinges are already there use a large diameter PVC pipe and hang a clothesline of your choice.
