I just bought a 1950's colonial and it has 2 windows in the kitchen corner.. one on each wall that I would like to remove to put in a 1/2 bath.

my question is once I remove the window/frame should i reinforce the window hole with a 2x4? or is that a bit overkill if the window was already framed in properly?

THanks!

Yes, strengthening is not needed. Assuming you are closing the window holes, just build 2x4 framing and insert, then sheath the exterior, insulate and cover the inside as needed.

Need Strengthing?

Probably not because when they frame the walls to accept a window or door, the framing is built to give the jambs, sill, and header added strength for the window or door, and to make up for the missing framing that would normally be there.

It depends on the sheathing span for side-wall, the on-center spacing......
