I have old paint spots on the sandstone slabs that support my front verandah posts (see photos below)

I have tried to scrub. No success.
I have tried high pressure water blaster. Still no success.
I can't use acid so I'm at a loss as to what I can do to get rid of them.

Any suggestions? Please??? :(

just had to remove paint from brick hearth due to sloppy repainting of the mantle & used a needle scaler,,, IF they're oil paint stains, try a poultice of fuller's earth ( diatomaceous earth ) & xylene/tolulene/naptha ( choice ),,, apply & let sit covered so the sun won't dry it prematurely,,, IF you scrub w/liquid, it'll just dilute stains and drive 'em into the stone deeper

of coarse your mileage may very compared to birdman's

glad we could be of help  forgot to mention nothing is uv-resistant so, if you could live w/it, fade would happen naturally,,, another feature is that you don't see it anymore - only visitors do - go back to bed - ooops forgot you were in oz

I don't know what kind of paint it is, but I have used brake fluid. Apply with a brush to cover the paint, give 20 minutes and it will start to lift. We used to do this on old signs to strip them and repaint them. You are just applying a film over the paint. then come back with detergent joy to remove brake cleaner and power wash. You do have to be careful with stone, you dont want to scar it or removed the time developed "stone laquer" as i haveheard some call it.
