Hi all! Curious if anyone has ran into this type of shutter mounting before? There are no screws or pins that can be seen on the front of the shutter to affix it to the house. I pried back one corner that was already a little loose and found this type of mount. I think there are several more. I’m wondering if anyone knows if and how I can remove the shutters without breaking them? We are wanting to paint them and are hoping to be able to spray them. It we can’t get them down and back up we’ll just leave them on to paint them. Would love if anyone has any insight. Thanks!

Got the same ones on my house. Got them from Home Dep. There are usually 4 clips per shutter. Clips are screwed to the brick/siding of house and they fit a verticle rib in the back of shutter. They are press fit on. Pry carefully from both sides, top and bottom. Paint them and bang them back on

Those clips were also used by Mid America brand shutters in the past. You can pry the shutters out of the clips but you might bend the clips to break a piece of the rib on the shutter if they are brittle. Early shutters were brittle, later ones were flexible. I saw too many shutters blow off so I used to paint screw heads and screw them on with long Phillips head screws.

Great, thanks so much! I haven’t tried pulling it off yet, but now I’m thinking that if I break the clip in the process I could possible get new clips at Home Depot.

Thanks! The house was built in 2001, and I assume the shutters are original to the house. It feels sort of flexible, but I’m sure it’s still a decent possibility I’ll break the clips.
