I may need to access the water line under the concrete driveway, which requires ripping off the concrete surface.
I cannot do all the work myself, but I'm considering doing some works to save the cost if I can and removing the concrete from the driveway is the one of them. But the questions are,
1. Does it save much money if I remove the concrete myself and let the contractors take it over ?
2. I cannot operate a big machine. is it even an option doing the job by swinging a big hammer ?

It's a typical two car driveway and is not large, I guess.

I'd say if they are already coming in with equipment to dig a trench, cutting out and removing a 1-2" strip of concrete out of a driveway would be minimal effort for them and not much cost to you. I don't think doing it yourself gains you much, except possibly a hernia.

Leave this to the pros. A wet saw would buzz a nice clean line that could be repaired again to look serviceable. Last thing I would do would be to tear up what is the preferred driveway substrate.

Ask the contractor and see how much you save. How much driveway do you need to remove? What is the problem with the plumbing?
